Handcrafted Finished

  • handcrafted yes finished,maybe

i will lead the way in this category !!!  i think my decoupaging will fit here.  it is handcrafted but the great thing is that they never have to be finished.  i have a great canvas i made about 2 years ago.  it has my name in it,alicia, and it has my boyfriends name, rush in it.  i used a painted canvas i bought at a yard sale for about a dollar. you know the kind, the muslin looking material strected over a wooden frame.  my passion for this art form started with a school project my youngest daughter did years ago.  we were making a collage for a history class and it occured to me that it would be a good way to recycle some of my gazillion magazines.  i started with words and it snowballed very quickly.  i now have file folders for all the different cut outs. i try to keep them organized but you might find something i have cut out of a magazine, torn off an envelope or even ripped from the headlines, literally anywhwere in my house !!!  i am constantly adding to some of my many works of art, it is amazing how many of my pieces of my mail have the word rush on them,  remember, he's that guy i share a bed and a collage with.  i have found that cigar boxes make the best canvases for my art.  they can be used for jewelry, junk or just any ole thing.  i recently used a wooden cigar box covered with all my dad's old duck stamps{from his liscenses} to make a box for fathers day. now that cigar smoking is so in vogue you can get some great boxes at your local tobacco stores.  they are very reasonable in my area.  i have even found one size box that is the exact size of CD cases, a coincidence, i think not.  i have made so many of these boxes for special occasions that my family and friends now almost expect them as gifts.  you can personalize anything with this craft.  a box, some scissors, a magazine and a wonderful little jar of modge podge and you have a gift everyone will treasure.  if anyone wants suggestions, tips or have some tips for me i would love to hear from you.    HAPPY PASTING    alicia
